Publish and Share

Once you are happy with your writing, you have many options on how you want to publish your work. You can make a poster or a book, a slide show on the computer, or even an audio recording or video. You can use the computer to print your final copy or you may want to handwrite your final piece.

If you decide on a visual publication (one that others will see), you'll want to liven up your work with some illustrations. Draw and color some pictures yourself or use a computer art program. You can print the drawings and add to your handwritten piece or save them on the computer and insert them into your final document. With a digital camera, you can take some of your own photographs to illustrate your writing. If you can't get the picture you want, try searching Creative Commons or Flickr.  Many of these images have been shared by other photographers and are free to use. If you use someone else’s photograph, be sure to cite the author correctly.

If you are making an audio publication (one that others will listen to), think about adding some background music or sounds to your reading. If you are writing about a place and have a digital voice recorder, like those found on most MP3 players, you can try record the sounds of the city – from dogs barking and cars honking to people singing. You will most likely need to record your reading several times before you are happy with the quality of your reading. Think about the expression and timing of your reading. A good program for recording sounds is Audacity, which can be downloaded and installed for free.

And...

Congratulations! You are a published author! It's time to share your wonderful writing with the world. Read your work or play back your recording for others to enjoy. Share your project with your parents and friends. Share it with your teachers and classmates. Younger students may also enjoy hearing you read. If you would like to see your writing published on this website, submit your work to me at youngauthors@bernadettesimpson.com.
