An ABC Safari through Sinai

Following the same alphabetical and alliterative format as An ABC Escapade through Egypt, this book focuses on the animals, geography, nature, and history of the Sinai peninsula. An ABC Safari through Sinai also explores the traditional and modern-day culture of Sinai Bedouin tribes.

Coming in print in 2013, inshallah.

After deciding to take a break from teaching to complete my first book, I moved to a new town and met a lot of new people who of course asked me, “What do you do?” Even after that first book was in print, I found it difficult to answer with, “I’m a writer.”

After all, writing is only a small part of what I love to do! I read, researched, took photographs, designed layouts, prepared docs for printing, published, and marketed my first book. I felt a better descriptor would have been “book creator”, but to keep things simple, I eventually became comfortable replying, “I write children’s books.”

But if I have to use a “writer” label, I prefer “writer-in-progress”. A writer who is continually striving to improve their craft and confident that each new book will be better than the last. Or maybe just a little easier to write.

My inspiration comes first from the children that I have worked with in Egypt as well as from the natural and cultural wonders around us. But I don’t just write for children. My goal in most of my writing projects is two-fold: to provide books with familiar content to children living in Egypt and to teach children and adults around the world more about Egypt and Sinai.
